For easy access, specify a place near the front door to put keys. Now, if you could just remember to use it. Photo: Evangeline's Vine

A neat and tidy catchall for keys is just the thing to keep jet-setters organized. This simple makeover of a sectioned appetizer tray has us singing our praises. No more frantically searching for keys as you head out the door. This tray has a spot for his, hers and yours. Yes, even for guests! A brilliant idea, simple steps and instant gratification. Sounds like a project we can handle.
Here's the how-to from the blog, Young House Love.

What You'll Need:
-sectioned tray
-stickers - preferably vinyl
-Modge Podge
-spray lacquer

Get Started:
Apply stickers as desired. Then brush with Modge Podge and let dry. Brush marks will dry invisible so don't worry about being neat. Once dried, spray with matte lacquer for better wetness protection.

Voila! And you're on your way to living a more organized life.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Hot Pink Decor for Sweetiepie

Filed under: Color, Party Ideas & Table Settings, Luxury Living, Design, etc, News & Trends

Part fantasy and part hot pink chic, Sweetiepie is one of those restaurants that made me stop and stare when I first passed it in New York's West Village. You can't help but gawk at the intricately scrolled giant bird cage and the leather tufted banquets. A pink marble floor? Then you notice the fanciful serveware and with one look at the menu, you know it's true. This is a place for sweet indulgences.

But first, a word on the decor. The truly whimsical design is the brainchild of owner Julie Daniels Janklow who conceptualized the pink marble floors, candy apple red banquettes and a gold brass human birdcage (which seats six) to entice guests as soon as they enter the space. Mirrored walls and ceilings create an Alice in Wonderland meets Marie Antoinette vibe perfect for parties, fashion photo shoots or a girl's nights out. Most notably, Sweetiepie hosted Ralph Lauren Children's store opening party when it opened last fall.

Julie and Luke Janklow opened the restaurant as a space both children and parents could enjoy. Hence, the co-existence of absinthe cocktails and shirley temples on the menu. And if you can stomach it, a towering 18-scoop "Sweetiepig" ice cream sundae that will push you down the rabbit hole.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

On the Market: "Ferris Bueller's Day Off " Glass House

Filed under: Celebs, Wish We Could..., Famous Homes, Design, etc, House Tours, Architecture, News & Trends

Made famous by the painfully hilarious car scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, this modern glass house is up for sale for a measly $2.3 million dollars. Tucked away in the woods of Highland Park, Illinois, the house is comprised of two steel and glass structures built by architects A. James Speyer and David Haid. The 4 bedroom, 4 bath home also has stunning panoramic views with floor-to-ceiling glass walls. First they were sold on sticks at the Renegade Craft Fair two years ago in Brooklyn. New and clever, I stood in awe at the thought of the mustache coming back in vogue. Then they appeared on the wedding circuit, popping up on the faces of groomsmen and as party favors for guests. No longer just the punch line of dirty jokes, mustaches have crept into hip and modern stores, designer's collections and just about everywhere we turn.
Just type mustache into Etsy's search engine for a quick look -- We dare you! Or check out some of our favorites below from around town after the jump.
TWINE

The Goods:
An online gift shop that's motto is beauty and simplicity and above all else, usefulness. It has everything from gorgeous hand-woven textiles from Bolivia to quirky paper goods to beautiful ceramic tableware items. Curated by the particular eye of Jenn LaBelle, designer and owner, you're guaranteed a well-made, unique gift every time.

The Secret:
First came ROMP a kid's store in Brooklyn in 2005, until ROMP (and Jenn) moved to NY's Hudson Valley in 2008. And from here, she has decided to launch TWINE, which shares some of the same sensibilities like natural materials, great design, handmade goods, unique surprises, but it's all grown-up.
